Topic 1: Understanding Visual Impairment

Visual impairment is diverse. People may experience:

Low vision

Some people may:

  • see shapes or colours
  • recognise movement
  • need contrast or lighting adaptations

Blindness

Some people rely mainly on:

  • hearing
  • touch
  • body awareness
  • verbal information

Important: every person experiences vision loss differently. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach.
